(Freedom.news) Exactly half of the 6-member Federal Elections Commission just threatened to launch an assault against conservative media, but you’d never know about it a) if you don’t look at the Drudge Report; b) if you take your political cues from the leaders of the Republican Party.
Drudge linked to a Washington Examiner story last Thursday, which reported that the FEC’s three Democratic members voted to punish the producer of a documentary that was critical of His Excellency Barack Obama.
“The three Democrats on the Federal Election Commission, in their latest and boldest move to regulate conservative media, voted in unison to punish a movie maker critical of President Obama after he distributed for free his latest work, Dreams of My Real Father: A Story of Reds and Deception,” columnist Paul Bedard reported.
The filmmaker, Joel Gilbert of Highway 61 films, has also produced a number of independent, politically-themed films and sent Dreams out to millions of voters in key swing states during the 2012 election.
Now ordinarily, that’s no big deal and well within the man’s First Amendment rights. But Democrats these days are not your daddy’s Democrats; today’s party is rife with hard-left radicals and extremists who will go to any lengths to shut down political opposition. You know, like the Castro brothers – Obama’s new buds (if Democrats in the United States could jail and torture political opponents, don’t doubt for a second that they would).
Though Gilbert acted on his own and with no ties at all to political groups or parties, someone (!) filed an FEC complaint alleging he violated political reporting rules which prompted him to seek the standard media “exemption.”
Mind you, this is the very same one that these left-wing hypocrites regularly give fellow sycophants and like-minded brethren in the filmmaking/documentary industry like Michael Moore and the Daily Kos. That said, all three Dem members voted in goose-step in a February action, reviving their bid to punish conservative media, an effort that first began initially by targeting online sites like, ironically, the Drudge Report.
Gilbert was saved by the three Republican appointees on the panel, who all voted to grant him the exemption, forcing a 3-3 tie and, thus, leading to no enforcement action. Had he lost the vote, he would have been forced to divulge who funded the film, which, honestly, is nobody’s business but his and the backer(s).
This is just one of several recent Obama administration efforts to roll back the Constitution and literally punish political opponents while doing end-runs around the normal legislative process – something Obama has done for the past seven-and-a-half years. Also last week our lawless imperial president claimed he has executive authority to make illegal aliens eligible for taxpayer-supported programs like Social Security and Disability. Say what?
But instead of taking to the dais to denounce these obvious abuses of power, Republican leaders are silent – as in, you have to wonder if they’re even breathing they are so silent on these and other issues. The question is why.
If they’re afraid they may stake out a position that the party’s eventual presidential candidate won’t take, you have to wonder just how out of touch party leaders are to even assume that. Rather, these issues are tailor-made for an election year; the “enemy” the GOP needs to defeat is not a certain leading Republican presidential contender but Democrats who are doing all they can to destroy our culture, our traditions and our constitutional form of government.
Examples of this kind of Obama-era politicization of the federal bureaucracy are legion: the IRS targeting of conservatives; the prior FEC effort; DHS (under Janet Napolitano) naming returning veterans as potential domestic terrorists; DHS (under Jeh Johnson) naming “right-wing extremists” as potential domestic terrorists; the Justice Department, under Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch, targeting immigration and marriage laws in conservative states, and so on.
Where is the hue and cry from the GOP leadership? What in blazes are they waiting for?
It may be that current Republican leaders are simply too bought-and-paid-for, too afraid of what the Left-wing media will say about them, or too insulated inside the Beltway to understand or care about the frustration that is boiling over within the party’s base. But whomever the eventual Republican presidential nominee becomes, if he (or she?) rabidly demonizes the Democratic candidate and his/her party for the extremist authoritarian faction that it has become, he/she will win in a landslide.
Because it’s obvious that candidate won’t get any help at all from a neutered GOP establishment.
