The federal government has recently released updated guidelines for immigrants titled “Welcome to the United States: A Guide for New Immigrants.” It features detailed instructions on how new immigrants can get a hold of taxpayer-provided benefits including welfare, food stamps and even the controversial Obamacare.
The guide also includes a thorough run-through about employment possibilities, available public benefits, rights and expectations of a permanent resident, and even reasons for why one should become a U.S citizen.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services had this to say about it: “This comprehensive guide contains practical information to help you settle into everyday life in the United States. It also contains basic civics information that introduces you to the U.S. system of government.”
Revisions made to the document include:
– revised and updated general information on policies, programs and resources;
– a refreshed layout and design;
– a new chapter called “Taking Care of Your Money” on personal finance, taxes and financial scams; and
– a new chapter called “Understanding Education and Health Care” on the education system, adult education programs and the health insurance marketplace.
Now, what would push the federal government to undertake such drastic revisions to the document? Well, according to Breitbart.com, it is in response to a report made by the Center for Immigration Studies which stated that 51% of immigrant homes used welfare in 2012.
